| Fundraising Manager Job Description Light House Sustainable Building Centre is seeking an experienced fundraiser to lead a capital campaign that will allow Light House to create a Centre of Excellence in Green Building. This senior fundraiser position will manage the design and implementation of fundraising activities in order to raise the $1 million plus balance of a $2.8 plus million multi-year initiative called the Green Building Centre of Excellence. The year one capital campaign target is $750,000. The successful candidate will have overall responsibility for fundraising, donor cultivation, and stewardship of the fund-raising initiative. The Green Building Centre of Excellence is an exciting evolution for Light House. The Centre will comprise a 4,000sf technology showcase and centre of excellence in green building. Opening in time for the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Games, the facility will be a state-of-the-art exemplar of energy efficient, green building design comprising a project gallery, displays of emerging technologies, product tradeshow, information centre, and a multi-purpose meeting and event space. Leveraging the international spotlight of the 2010 Olympics, the centre will be a celebration of Western Canada’s leadership in sustainability. Responsibilities Develop a fundraising plan with the Executive Director and Communications Manager for future years of the Initiative. Directly ask for funds from individuals and institutions. Coordinate donor cultivation, outreach and communications to raise multi-year contributions from individual, corporate, foundation and government sources from an ever -ncreasing donor base. Cultivate additional funders into the Initiative and build strong relationships with existing funders. Make sure funding sources receive individual reports and updates on program results in accordance with reporting requirements. Steward existing funders of the Initiative so that they repeat and grow their contributions. Write and edit grant proposals and funder reports. Work with the Communications Manager to develop and execute communications strategy for donors and prospects. Coordinate, in collaboration with other staff members, written and electronic external communications, including newsletters, web site, and collateral materials. Design and coordinate donor cultivation activities and education events. Represent the Foundation at external meetings, events, and speaking engagements. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in a related field required. Five to eight years fundraising experience with success in securing six-figure level donations Demonstrated fundraising experience in both the institutional and individual/major donor context. Must understand how to conduct institutional fundraising techniques (proposal creation, submission, and reporting). Strong knowledge of how to cultivate, solicit and steward individual donations. Experience devising strategies for cultivation and solicitation of financial support Strong management, organizational, and supervisory skills Knowledge of the cultural dynamics of the corporate and institutional giving communities throughout BC and Canada highly preferred. Experience managing budgets Exceptional computer skills with working proficiency of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and an understanding of Internet capabilities Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to write and present information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences Excellent attention to detail and ability to multitask, able to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment Demonstrated fundraising leadership skills, including the ability to represent organizations with the public Ability to work strategically and professionally under pressure and tight deadlines Mature interpersonal style, ability to interact and relate well with a range of people from diverse backgrounds About Light House Light House Sustainable Building Centre was launched in November 2005 as a research project incubated by the Centre for Sustainable Community Development at Simon Fraser University and EcoTrust Canada. Incorporated as a non-profit society in October 2006, our purpose is: • To provide a ‘first-stop’ integrated service shop that connects British Columbians (both business and the public) with the inspiration, information, services and skills they need to implement sustainable building solutions. • To facilitate and accelerate market transformation and economic development activities for the sustainable building cluster in British Columbia. To provide education, training and outreach programs that will foster a deeper awareness of and commitment to sustainable building practices. • To support and advance public sector programs and private sector initiatives through community engagement, research, partnership development, technical assistance and consulting services. Light House currently has 10 staff and over 50 active volunteers, including 26 interns who commit a minimum of 4 hours per week. Light House’s professional experts include architects, building technologists, environmental and energy engineers, policy and economic development analysts and educators, with diverse experience in green building practices, processes, policies and programs.
