UNYA has a full-time position available for a Coordinator of the Aries Program. The Coordinator is responsible for managing and coordinating the day-to-day operations of the program, a day program for street-involved Native youth (ages 13-18), including: planning, implementing and overseeing all activities and scheduling for the program; individual, team and program development; human resource and financial management; networking; and reporting. The Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the provision and maintenance of a safe, supportive environment that is culturally open and accessible in order to support the personal and educational development of youth participants. The Coordinator reports directly to the Programs Coordinator for Ministry for Children and Family Development (MCFD) programs. The Coordinator will maintain a regular schedule and be available on an on-call basis to respond to urgent/emergency program issues. The program runs from late August until June/July.

Qualifications and Conditions:
1. Must have a minimum of (3) years experience supervising programs working with youth in both individual and group settings, particularly working with street involved Native youth. Consideration will be given to a relevant combination of education, training and experience.
2. Experience working with the Aboriginal community, MCFD agencies and the Vancouver School Board system. Must demonstrate a good working knowledge of community resources in Vancouver, particularly educational, youth & Aboriginal-specific resources.
3. Must have a broad based knowledge of the family and social issues that Native youth face today, including the generational impacts of the residential school system on Native families and communities, and a good understanding of Native cultures and traditions.
4. Must have excellent mediation and supervisory skills, and experience coordinating staff and/or volunteers. Will have the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. Must have strong written and oral communications skills, including the ability to compile accurate records and prepare reports. Must possess a good working knowledge of computer systems and programs.
5. Must demonstrate the ability to identify with mandate, policies and procedures of the organization.
6. Must have a personal support system and self care plan in place.
7. Must have a criminal record check completed by and satisfactory to UNYA.
8. Preference will be given to qualified Aboriginal applicants.

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Work in cooperation with others, including other team members as needed to plan, implement, evaluate, and supervise day-to-day activities for the program, including non-academic classes.
2. Supervise and coordinate program staff. Ensure the timely completion of criminal record checks, staff orientation and training, and performance evaluations for all program staff. Coordinate and monitor staff scheduling. Compile and submit all personnel-related information to the Accounting Department and/or Executive Director in an accurate and timely manner.
3. Maintain sound financial and office management. Oversee and monitor program expenditures, ensuring that the program remains within its allocated budget. Prepare and submit required financial reports in a timely and accurate manner. Actively undertake fundraising for program.
4. Consult with youth, staff, and other relevant individuals to identify the needs and goals of individual youth. Liaise and advocate for the best interests of youth with MCFD and other relevant individuals, including participating in case planning and implementation.
5. Liaise with the MCFD and the Vancouver School Board. Build and maintain a network of positive working relationships with other service providers to ensure effective referrals and a good continuum of care for youth. Refer youth and families to other agencies in the community, as their needs require. Represent the program on community committees, as required.
6. Keep abreast of all current social concerns and street trends and as required attend professional development activities in order to remain informed regarding issues affecting street-involved youth.
7. Organize and positively contribute to regularly scheduled team meetings, and participate in senior staff and FUNYA meetings in order to inform the ongoing evaluation and development of the program. Actively assist staff in development and review of program components.
8. Positively address all concerns, incidents or crises that affect program mandate, UNYA policy, personal issues, community relations, etc. Respect and maintain confidentiality of staff issues within the team, with the exception of the Project Coordinator’s direct supervisors.
9. Consult with and report to supervisor on a regular basis. Maintain accurate logs and compile statistical records to support program needs and inform ongoing program development and evaluation. Prepare and submit reports to supervisors and funders, as required.
10. Develop proposals for new service and program changes as needs require for enhanced effectiveness, in conjunction with the MCFD Program Coordinator or other UNYA staff as identified by the UNYA Executive Director.
