This is recreation work involving leadership responsibility for the organization and implementation of a variety of social, cultural, or recreational activities within a Community Centre program. Duties are performed within established program guidelines but considerable independent action and initiative is exercised on individual aspects of the program. Performance is evaluated by a superior in terms of attainment of desired results and technical adequacy. The incumbent plans, assigns, checks and coordinates the work of volunteers. This incumbent will also provide assistance to a superior in the monitoring and routine evaluation of programs and provide routine supervision of facility operation within standard operating procedures in the absence of a superior.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Completion of the 12th school grade supplemented by courses in recreation working toward a certificate in recreation and sound related community recreation experience; OR preferred completion of a one- or two-year Community Recreation program from a recognized Community College and some related experience; OR an equivalent combination of training and experience. Working knowledge of organized community recreation principles and practices. Working knowledge of the recreational, social, educational and cultural interests and requirements and resources of the area served. Working knowledge of sports, social activities, crafts, arts and other pursuits related to various recreational programs as well as demonstrated interest and/or training in working with seniors. Ability to organize, coordinate, participate in and provide leadership in recreational program activities. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, groups, associations and the general public. Ability to instruct and supervise part-time recreational staff. Ability to prepare and maintain records and reports related to the work. Ability to successfully pass a Criminal Record Check.
