| Mechanical Technician (Remote Handling) TRIUMF is Canada's National Laboratory for Particle and Nuclear Physics. Our Remote Handling Group is currently accepting applications for an enthusiastic Mechanical Technician capable of assisting with installation and maintenance of ISAC target services as well as performing routine operational systems service procedures. These services include the vacuum pumping, high-voltage and electrical systems, beam diagnostics, target cooling, hall ventilation, overhead cranes and RF services. On the job training in these areas will be provided to the right candidate who demonstrates a keen technical aptitude for mechanical systems. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: • Assists with the installation, maintenance and repair of services in the ISAC Target Hall. • Routine removal, replacement and start-up commissioning of all Module Services. • Provides ISAC Hot Cells support and back-up. • Contributes to QA documentation of checklists, drawings, equipment Logs and operational procedures for Target Hall equipment. • Assists with Remote Handling ISAC Target Hall Crane personnel in maintaining crane operations. • Work in areas under controlled radiation and/or on radioactive components, acting in a manner as to best reduce personnel exposures. Minimum qualifications, skills and knowledge for the position include basic theoretical and practical knowledge of mechanical technology, preferably gained through completion of a recognized program of technology from a technical college, and at least three to five years experience. Familiarity with operation and maintenance of electrical, plumbing, pneumatic and high vacuum systems is required, with practical knowledge of at least one specific function within this field. The ability to read and interpret mechanical assembly and detail drawings as well as other pertinent technical data sheets is required. The successful candidate will also have good interpersonal skills and be an effective team player. While not mandatory, prior experience working in a research environment or with scientific or experimental equipment will be a definite asset, as would an understanding of target/ion-source processes, RIB production requirements, and/or familiarity with ISAC Hot Cell operations The position is located at TRIUMF, in Vancouver, BC.
